The work of
Georgia Spiropoulos
includes instrumental, vocal, mixed and electroacoustic compositions, multimedia works and audio-video installations.
Her musical language is all-inclusive embracing the entire sound world through unconventional (and conventional) playing and singing techniques, electronic sound, recorded sound but also found music. Her research on new sonorities and compositional techniques has its roots in 20th century music, in oral traditions but also in avant-rock, free improvisation, experimental turntablism, performance art or interdisciplinary artists. She explores ideas about orality, its transmission and reception, and the ubiquity of orality in musical text and performance.

Georgia Spiropoulos studied classic and jazz piano, harmony, counterpoint and fugue in Athens. At the same time she worked as a performer, arranger and transcriber of Greek oral-tradition music for ten years.
Since 1996 she has been living in Paris where she studied composition & electro-acoustic music with Philippe Leroux, form analysis with Michael Lévinas, computer music at IRCAM (with Jonathan Harvey, Tristan Murail, Brian Ferneyhough, Philippe Hurel, Marco Stroppa, Ivan Fedele) and “Arts and Languages” at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS).
Georgia Spiropoulos taught music composition and electroacoustic music at McGill University in Montreal, Canada (2017-18) where she held the Schulich Distinguished Visiting Chair in Music and was the active director of the Digital Composition Studios (DCS).
She worked as a research composer at IRCAM on the project
“Mask: The voice transformations and computer tools for live performance”. She also made extensive research on contemporary techniques for voice, harp, saxophone and piano.
She has been a Civitella Ranieri Fellow, the winner of the “Villa Médicis Hors-les-Murs Award” for NYC, and she was made Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
Spiropoulos has received commissions from the French Ministry of Culture, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, IRCAM - Centre Pompidou, French Radio, “Marseille-Provence Cultural Capital of Europe 2013”, Sacem, Haus der Kulturen der Welt of Berlin, Onassis Foundation, La Muse En Circuit and numerous ensembles.
Her works are performed internationally at Centre Pompidou, Cité de la Musique, IRCAM, Louvre Auditorum (Paris), Symphony Space (New York), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Radial System V (Berlin), Gasteig München (Munich), ZKM (Karlsruhe), AOI Concert Hall (Shizuoka), Pollack Hall, Le Gesù (Montreal), Felicja Blumenthal Music Center, Hateiva Hall (Tel Aviv), Concert Hall of the Academy of Music (Krakow), Onassis Stegi, French Institut, Goethe Institut (Athens).
She collaborates with many ensembles (Ensemble Intercontemporain, L'Itinéraire, 2E2M, Sillages, Ars Nova, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Aventure, Nikel, McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, dissonArt, Bl!ndman, Sixtrum, Smashensemble, Curious Chamber Players, Pulsar Trio, Zafraan, Octopus), choirs (Accentus, Les Cris de Paris, Le Jeune Chœur de Paris), saxophone quartets (Prism, Habanera, Quasar), and soloists (Claude Delangle, Médéric Collignon, Hélène Breschand, Vincent David, Theophilos Sotiriades and Alvise Sinivia).
She has been performed at festivals such as Manifeste, Agora, Ars Musica, Tenso Days, Présences - Radio France, Athens & Epidaurus Festival, In Transit - International Festival of Performing Arts - Berlin, Seamus, Extension, Musiques Libres de Besançon, Gegenwelten Festival Neue Musik, Futura, WhyNote, Aujourd'hui Musiques, Musiques de Notre Temps, Hateiva, Sinkro, ICEM, ICMC, SMC, WFAE, WOCMAT, Electroacoustic Music Days of Greece, The Electronic Arts and Music Festival of Miami, Boston Cyberarts Festival.
She gives regularly lectures on her work as invited speaker at academic institution around the world (Columbia University NYC, McGill University of Montreal, University of California Santa Barbara, University of Paris 7 and Paris 8, University of Crete, IRCAM, ICMC and SMC International Conferences, Ars Musica Colloquium, Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, Paris Conservatory CRR, Tel Aviv Conservatory, Alte Schmiede-Vienna, French Institut of Athens).
She has been a jury member for the ICMC and SMC International Conferences, for the ilSuono Summer Academy and for the annual Cursus and for the artistic research residences at IRCAM.

Andreas Karaoulanis

Andreas Karaoulanis studied computer science at University of Wales, Newport and and animation at the University of Wales, Newport.
His current work deals with interactive media design and animated film, including digital and analog approaches. Animations evolve, revisiting of past procedures to achieve new results. Initial graphic elements transform through juxtapositions with sets of sound / music objects, that act as filters, emphasis-ing the underlying structure and its specific perceptual aspects.
His works were presented in museums in London, Moscow and Paris, as well as in numerous institutes throughout Europe. Over the last years he worked as a freelance event / media artist for various institutions and companies in Berlin such as the Berlin Academy of Arts, Eidotech GmbH, Luxoom Medienprojekte GmbH, Ircam-Center Pompidou in Paris, Onassis Cultural Center in Athens.
